Ughhhhhhhh I have to figure out something to do this summer so I'm not stuck in a house with my parents 30 minutes from town in a state where I don't know anyone, but apparently the only place in Richmond to get a decent summer job in theatre is Virginia Rep, and I can't get an internship there because that's the place I had to leave two weeks early LAST summer because I was miserable and overstimulated for two months straight! And I doubt I can stay the summer at school doing research because I don't even know for sure what my capstone is going to be, but I don't think anything related to my ideas is going to require much in the way of research. The only two job listings I've found that interest me are either in Colorado 6 hours from where my parents are going to be (an ideal minimum distance from family but even more isolating than living in a house with just them, and also far from Richmond which I'd like to stay near, plus I can't tell how heavy the workload is or what the environment is like from the job posting) or doing haunted ghost tours at Colonial Williamsburg, which is wicked cool and pays like $15 an hour, but does not provide housing and is still further away than I'd like to be. AND there's no interesting summer classes I can take. This feels like a silly problem but here we are
#worst part is like in theory i loved working at va rep like the housing was great cool area of richmond decent pay but just.#it was rough enough when i was just working in the shop but then wss started and i had to run crew as well so i was doing like 50+hour weeks#and everything was too loud and too bright all the time and their tools sucked#i have never had the issues with the screw guns at school like i had with the ones there it took me 5 minutes to put in 1 3inch screw#and the one saw we could angle scared the piss out of me one day because its very particular about how fast you can bring the chop down#theres another saw you can angle too but it was in the other shop and also you had to hold the guard up manually to use it#there were always 3 different fans on to deal with the dust+the radio turned up to hide the sounds of the fans whicj was Too Much#and im now terrified that any other professional environment i enter will be the same#and that im not actually going to be able to do the only job ive ever actually been able to see myself finding a life with!#i need to work someplace small but those sorts of places usually dont have summer jobs theyve got like 1 carpenter who works there#til they find a better offer or retire or move or w/e#so finding a summer position in a good environ is impossible and even a long-term one will be hard to find#im sorry abt this im just. idk. tired and scared of life i guess.#prsnl#rant#xander speaks
